August 2016: growth[period] is proud to support the American Cancer Society (ACS), a nationwide voluntary health organization that works to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. ACS was founded in 1913 and now has over 900 offices across 11 geographic regions in the United States, as well as a network of approximately 2.5 million volunteers. The organization provides grants to researchers, organizes public health campaigns, and offers resources about nutrition and physical activity, quitting smoking, and cancer screening tests. ACS is credited with discovering the link between smoking and cancer, establishing the link between obesity and multiple types of cancer, and developing drugs to treat leukemia and advanced breast cancer, among many other accomplishments.
