On October 16, 2109, growth[period] CEO Courtney Spaeth was joined by her family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate her as a recipient of the 2019 Joseph Wharton Award, the Washington DC Wharton Club’s highest honor. Every year the Joseph Wharton Award is awarded to an exemplary individual that has demonstrated a commitment to public and community service, outstanding career achievements, and support of the Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania, and alumni clubs. Since the Wharton Club initiated this tradition, they have honored top officials in business, government, non-profits, academia, and the legal and accounting professionals who have attended Wharton or other schools at UPenn. Courtney was unanimously voted by the Board to receive this award based on her many accomplishments and contributions to the community. In 51 years she is one of only 6 non-Wharton grads at UPenn to receive this honor.
Besides honoring six outstanding alumni while giving Members an opportunity to get together, the dinner generates funds to support our Club's exceptional programming - the most extensive of any B-School Club in the Washington DC region - and attendance at some of Wharton's major events, such as the Summit and the Dinner, for talented potential Wharton students from the D.C. area.
